I have not watched the full George daniels / Orvis show yet so I can not comment on that set-up however it does seem strange to me. Nymphing is almost always best with a longer 9 to 11-foot rod. The indicator stays with me, as the flies break off at their 4X knot or the 3x to 4x junction. I always know where my fly is and using the right indicator will really help. Its important to cover all parts of the spots where a fish could be holding or feeding and covering it well. And the sighter dramatically improves my visibility in doing so.
